At the age of 7, the Tyrolean discovered his talent and passion for kart racing. He finished his first season in the Tyrolean Kart Championship, second overall and one year later, he had already lifted the trophy. From 2003 to 2010, he put his competitors from several German Kart Championships in the shade.
Lucas Auer, 16, graduated from karting and went into formula racing. In the JK Racing Asia Series, he won the championship title with seven victories and managed to be on the podium in 17 out of 18 races. Many moments of glory followed in the Toyota Racing Series and the ATS Formula 3 Cup. He took part in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship 2013 and 2014, celebrating four victories and more than 15 podium positions. In the traditional season finale, the prestigious Formula 3 Grand Prix in Macau, he finished in second place in November 2014. This makes him the best Austrian in the history of this race.
In 2015, he recorded another milestone in his career as a factory driver for Mercedes-Benz in the DTM. In his debut year, Lucas was already able to set first highlights in the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM. Auer was the only debutant who achieved a pole position in the DTM during the 2015 season.
In 2016, the Tyrolean once again competed for Mercedes-Benz in the DTM, and clinched his maiden victory at his second home race in Lusatia. With his start-finish victory, Auer also scored the first DTM victory for the Mercedes team Mücke and thus wrote motorsport history.
2017 was the year of the big international breakthrough for Lucas Auer. In the DTM, the Tyrolean was the youngest driver in the field and caused a sensation. From victory at the first race at Hockenheim, he was always the best Mercedes driver in the title fight, and for many races the championship leader. With his victories in Hockenheim, at the Lausitzring and at the Nürburgring, he proved his speed as well as gaining three pole positions - the maximum number a driver had achieved in this year. In the championship, Auer was sixth at the end, and thus the best-placed driver for Mercedes.
Furthermore, Auer was the only Mercedes driver to win a race in the ADAC GT Masters 2017, when he made his guest appearance at the Nürburgring and was top of the podium. The emotional highlight of a successful year was on Hungaroring, where Lucas Auer was allowed to test a current Formula 1 car of the Force India team, in an official test. He was immediately convincing and finished second in the category, "Newcomer of the Year", in the election for Austria's Sportsman of the Year.
In 2018, Lucas enters his fourth DTM season with the Silberpfeil Mercedes-AMG Team.
